As you reach the end of anthology, I round up my final thoughts in a short editorial piece. Accompanying these words is an image created by a 16 year old student from Brazil, who uses the name ‘Amateur Magician‘ with their artwork. Amateur Magician can be found on Instagram @amateur.magician.
The artist told me they decided on a setting the place that, not only themself, but most people who struggle with body image believe can be the ‘worst place on earth’ – the beach. The beach has always been the one place where people whose bodies don’t come under the ‘norm’ set by societal standards feel excluded, exposed, insecure, and miserable. To combat this feeling, the artist drew several different seashells to represent body neutrality, with the idea that every single seashell, in its on way, is beautiful. Just like all humans are.
